Left wing rises to power

The 2004 election may have shifted America's political agenda to the right, but another November election marked the leftist trends emerging in South America, that of Uruguay's Tabare Vaz-quez. A 64-year-old oncologist, and self pro-claimed socialist, Vazquez beat out rivals in Uruguay's traditional White National and Colorado parties, which have both lost favor during recent economic downturns.

Un-bear-able environmental crisis

In America we have a plethora of bear images; there are cuddly teddy bears, Care Bears that stare, yummy Gummi Bears, and bears that live in big blue houses. What is it about the bear that immediately connects it with a distinct geographic location and culture? Images of panda bears are immediately associated with China and tall bamboo forests, while polar bears conjure images of the frozen tundra and an icy wasteland.

Turkey Soda Pop?
After the tremendous success of its turkey and gravy-flavored soda during last year's U.S. holiday season, a Seattle based soda company will be offering green beans, casserole, mashed potatoes, fruitcake, and cranberry flavored soda. "Last year, the response to our Turkey and Gravy Soda was overwhelming, but we really didn't have side dishes to go with it," Peter van Stolk, chief executive of specialty soda maker Jones Soda Co.
