This final issue of The Cowl leaves its staff proud of the successful year that it has had, but pensive about the graduating seniors who made it possible. Anyone who has enjoyed The Cowl this year has a group of members of the Class of 2010 to thank. The composers of The Cowl who remain in Slavin G05 would like to thank those who have sat at its messy desks for the last time and are moving on to bigger, cleaner offices.
If it were not for Patrick Allen and Katrina Davino, our publication might be an error-infested, politically incorrect, discredited compilation of sloppy writings and bad grammar. Our graduating Head Copy Editors were the backbone of this newspaper this year and are responsible for the integrity of every piece of writing that has graced its pages. Jenny Arvanaghi and Nicole Amaral quietly commanded the World and Portfolio sections, respectively, but did not sacrifice an ounce of quality by remaining sane amidst the madness of the rest of the office. Maryclaire Dugre commendably managed the bitter controversy that flowed weekly out of Commentary. The section loses its friendliest face with the graduation of its editor and is subsequently even more prone to readers despising it. Every female Cowler will miss the office heartthrob, Sports Editor Dan Ollquist. Dan leaves The Cowl a less attractive organization, and should be proud of doing an outstanding job of giving PC its beloved sports stories during his time on the staff. Devin Murphy uncovered and reported the stories of this campus with exemplary objectivity. Devin was an office favorite and will be missed by all who remain there. The Cowl ran smoothly this year, and has Matt Longobardi to thank for it. The departing Managing Editor somehow created order through the extreme chaos of Slavin G05, a task only achievable by someone as awesome as Matt.
At the helm of The Cowl this year were two wonderfully different, but nonetheless, wonderful people. Providence College could not have had two more perfect people than John Vaghi and Katie Caliva in charge of its student newspaper. The two are perfect foils, but both boast a unique form of brilliance; one more of a mad scientist, the other a scholarly professional. They made running The Cowl look easy, which it surely is not.
The members of The Cowl who these seniors leave behind would like to wish each of them the best of luck in everything that they pursue in the future and assure them that if they do as wonderfully in their future endeavors as they have on this newspaper, they need not worry.
