Campus Ministry sponsored a vigil for Haiti this past Monday. It lasted for nine hours from 12:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Every club and organization was invited to participate in an hour of Eucharistic adoration. The editors and staff of The Cowl guarded the Eucharist from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. As an organization we are a very eclectic group of people, and it is very unusual for all of us to agree on an issue unanimously. However, it was reassuring to see that no matter what our different jobs or opinions we can come together for a cause other than to publish a newspaper for the benefit of the Providence College campus. We do not often times have the chance to take a public stance concerning anything. We strive to be objective in our reporting, and to make it clear that the opinions expressed in any article that they are only those of the writer. It was a powerful experience to silently enter St. Dominic Chapel, nod hello to each other, take various seats, and pray. We were there to show that we are committed to raising awareness and to helping the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Each week we have been attempting to include at least one story about Haiti in the paper. The vigil reminded us that although our jobs as a newspaper staff pull us in different directions we can focus on something other than our own needs for an hour. The hour gave us the opportunity to reaffirm our own relationships and to reflect on how lucky we are to have each other. You do not necessarily need to go to the Chapel to pray, but do something with the people you care about this week for a common cause. It will help remind you how much you appreciate the people who surround you each day, and how good it feels to unite for a good cause.—The Editors
