Field Hockey:
The Providence College field hockey team wrapped up their season this past Friday, Oct. 28 with a 4–2 loss at Quinnipiac University. The loss was a part of a six-game losing streak the Friars unfortunately never got to stop before the end of their season. They will end their season with a 5–12 overall record and a 2–5 record in Big East conference play. The Friars’ point leader this season was junior Ally DeCoste ’24, who finished the season with 15 points, including five primary assists and five goals. Both the five assists and five goals also led the team this season.
Men’s Soccer:
The Providence College men’s soccer team is heading into a pivotal part of their season. Heading into the year, the Friars were ranked top-25 in the country. Now, the Friars sit at a perfect .500, including an overall record of 4–4–7 and a conference record of 2–2–5. Two of those draws have come in the last week. On Wednesday, Oct. 19 they tied St. John’s University at home 1–1. Junior defenseman Jason Pereira ’24 scored in the 58th minute, but the Friars gave up a goal 14 minutes later. They then had a scoreless draw Saturday, Oct. 29 at No. 19 Xavier University. The team has one more home matchup Wednesday, Nov. 2 against Creighton University before Big East Tournament play.
Volleyball:
The Providence College volleyball team is currently sitting with an 11–13 overall record and a 3–9 conference record. They are currently ranked No. 8 in the Big East and, with the Big East tournament recently expanding to a field of six schools, have a chance to extend their season with some big games coming up. That process started this week, with a disappointing 3–1 loss at Villanova University on Friday, Oct. 28. Following the match, the Friars bounced back with a win on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Georgetown University, 3–2. Their next match is at Creighton University on Friday, Nov. 4.
Men’s Ice Hockey:
The No. 13 team in the nation, the Providence College men’s ice hockey team currently stands at 4–2–1 and has had a strong season so far. After losing their last two games to No. 4 University of Denver, the Friars bounced back this weekend, tying a game and winning a game in a home-and-home series against the University of New Hampshire. The Friars were in New Hampshire on Friday, Oct. 28 and tied 2–2 (they would win in shootouts). The Friars climbed back from a 2–0 deficit in the 2nd period with goals from Craig Needham ’23 and Chase Yoder ’24. They would go on to win 3–1 at home the following day, with another goal from Needham and two goals from Jaroslav Chmelar ’26.
