Men’s Soccer:
The Providence College men’s soccer team has a 2–2 overall record. The Friars traveled to Syracuse to kick off their season against the No. 1 ranked Syracuse Orange on Aug. 24, in which the Friars were shutout 2–0. The Friars bounced back from their loss on Aug. 27 with a 2–0 shutout in their home match against the Merrimack Warriors, in which Brendan McSorley ’24 and Bruno Rosa ’26 scored their first goals of the season. The Friars then lost to the Hofstra Pride on Sept. 1 by a score of 4–2, with Pearse O’Brien ’27 and Nathan Messer ’23GS scoring for the Friars. On Sept. 4, Providence beat the URI Rams by a score of 2–1, with Cole Dewhurst ’25 and McSorley scoring for the Friars. On Sept. 9, the Friars hosted the UMass Minutemen and lost 3–2. The next game for the Friars is Sept. 15 against Akron.
Women’s Soccer:
The Providence College women’s soccer team has a 5–1 overall record, giving up only one goal the entire season. The Friars kicked off their season with home shutout victories against Iona and Quinnipiac by scores of 2–0 and 3–0, respectively. The Friars then traveled to Kingston, RI on Aug. 27 to beat the URI Rams 1–0, with Meg Hughes ’24 scoring the game winning goal. The Friars faced the Brown Bears on Aug. 31, beating them by a score of 1–0 with Kayla Briggs ’27 scoring. On September 5, the Friars shut out the Temple Owls 5–0, with Hughes, Colleen Casey ’26, Thaea Mouratidis ’26, Corinne Dente ’23GS, and Marryn Gruhn ’27 scoring. The Friars ended their winning streak on Sept. 7, losing 1–0 to Rutgers. The next game for the Friars is Sept. 16 against Columbia.
Field Hockey:
The Providence College field hockey team has a 2–2 overall record. The team started their season off in Orono, Maine with matchups against the No. 17 ranked Boston College Eagles and the Maine Black Bears, losing both games by scores 3–0 and 2–0, respectively. On Sept. 1 the Friars earned their first win of the season beating the Bryant Bulldogs at home 1–0, with Lisa McNamara ’23GS scoring the lone goal. The Friars won again on Sept. 3, beating the Long Island Sharks 1–0, with Celia Preveza ’25 scoring for Providence. On Sept. 8, the Friars beat the University of New Hampshire Wildcats 5–3. The Friars’ next game is against the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sept. 15.
Volleyball:
The Providence College volleyball team has a 2–4 overall record. The team started their season off competing in the California State Bakersfield Tournament with matchups against Southern Utah University, Cal State Bakersfield, and Eastern Washington University. The Friars lost all three matches by scores of 3–1, 3–0, and 3–1, respectively. Providence then competed in the Abilene Christian University Tournament, losing in a 5-set matchup against ACU. While in the tournament, the Friars beat the University of North Dakota in a 5-set matchup, in addition to beating Grambling State 3–1. After this tournament, Providence hosted the Friar Classic, beating Saint Peter’s and Central Connecticut State in straight sets, in addition to beating Bryant in five sets. The next tournament for the Friars is the Boston College/Harvard Tournament, which starts Sept. 15 for Providence.
