I was delighted to see the lead story on the front page of the March 21 Cowl about Millie Paladino ’19. Our high caliber and often world class runners receive far too little recognition on our basketball-crazed campus. The story and its placement reminded me of the Cowl issue that was published 50 years ago, in the spring of 1979. The front-page lead story was about an altercation in the cafeteria involving a PC basketball player’s threatening someone. In the same issue, buried on the back page in the lower left-hand corner was a story that took up a scant few inches: “John Treacy Wins Second Cross Country World Championship.” John was a PC student in the mid-1970s and is the brother of our renowned coach Ray Treacy. The contrast between the coverage of the two Cowl stories about a PC runner requires no elaboration. My thanks to the Cowl editors for giving our illustrious runners the recognition they deserve.
