Since 2020 is in full swing, promoters are beginning to release the lineups and dates of the world’s largest music festivals for the coming year. On Tuesday, January 28, Firefly Festival announced that Rage Against the Machine, Billie Eilish, and Halsey are headlining June 18 through June 21.
Firefly Music Festival is the East Coast’s most popular music festival by far. The festival takes place in Dover, DE. The reason for this is due to the fact that many audience members can stay overnight at their own camp sites. Other major artists attending the festival besides the headliners include Khalid, Blink-182, Cage the Elephant, Illenium, Diplo, and Tove Lo, among others. There will be six stages this year, and tickets went on sale Monday, February 3.
Besides Firefly Festival, Bunbury also announced its lineup for 2020. Bunbury is not necessarily as popular as Firefly but still attracts big names. The festival is located in Sawyer Point Park and Yeatman’s Cove in Cincinnati, OH running from June 5 to June 7. This is the ninth year of the festival, which began in 2012. Headlining this year is Twenty-One Pilots. The co-headliners are Marshmello and the folk band The Avett Brothers. The rest of the lineup has a few popular names as well, including Ski Mask the Slump God, Neon Trees, and Blackbear.
Last year, Bunbury was headlined by Fall Out Boy, Greta Van Fleet, and The 1975, so they are looking to cater this year’s festival to more current popular mainstream artists like Marshmello. Adding Twenty-One Pilots and The Avett Brothers rounds out a diverse festival lineup that will help the festival grow in the coming years.
Along with these two festivals, Osheaga announced a powerful headlining crew on Jan. 27. The festival is going to take place from July 31 to Aug. 2 in Parc Jean-Drapeau, Montreal and marks the festival’s 15th anniversary. The headliners for Osheaga this year are Foo Fighters, Lizzo, and Kendrick Lamar.
The opening night will be run by Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters on the main stage. The opening night just so happens to also be a celebration of the band’s 25th year together. The second night will be Lizzo’s first time performing in Montreal. Lizzo is looking to get back on tour after taking home three Grammy Awards this year. Kendrick Lamar returns on the final day for the third time in his career. He first attended the festival and performed in 2013. In 2015, he performed for Osheaga’s 10th anniversary celebration.
The rest of the festival’s lineup has since been announced. Big names like Vampire Weekend, Lewis Capaldi, Bon Iver, Brockhampton, Third Eye Blind, and French Montana, along with many others, will play supporting roles in the festivities.
All tickets can be found on the websites of the specific music festivals, with ticket types ranging from day passes to VIP passes. This year’s festivals seem to be competing more with each other with the lineups they are releasing, and it should make for an extremely interesting year of live music.
