Women’s Basketball:
The Providence College women’s basketball team split the two games they played this week. They kicked the week off with a winning effort in Indianapolis on Jan. 18 against the Butler University Bulldogs by a score of 74–66. They were led by Grace Efosa ’24 and Janai Crooms ’23. The pair combined for 28 points and also controlled the glass notching 20 rebounds and a double-double for Crooms. The Friars followed up the victory against Butler with a hard-fought 61–51 loss against Georgetown University at home on Jan. 21. The Friars then moved to a record of 12–10 after facing Creighton University on Tuesday, Jan. 24. The Friars lost by a score of 64–46. Next they will face Xavier University on the road this upcoming Saturday, Jan. 28.
Men’s Hockey:
After splitting a tough weekend series on the road against the tenth-ranked team in the country, Merrimack College, the Friars found themselves on the road again in their lone game this week. Providence traveled to New Jersey for a bout with Princeton University on Tuesday, Jan. 17. The Friars came up just short in the game, falling in overtime by a score of 3–2. Riley Duran ’25 and Liam Valente ’26 each notched goals for the Friars. The loss against Princeton dropped the Friars’ record to 12–7–6 on the year; they’ll resume play this weekend with a two-game set on the road against Maine University.
Women’s Hockey:
The Providence women’s ice hockey team had a pair of games this week, both of which resulted in ties to move their overall record to an impressive 17–8–3. The Friars began the week by paying a visit to Boston University, a game that resulted in a 2–1 loss in a shootout, following a 2–2 tie in regulation. Goals for the Friars were scored by Lauren DeBlois ’23 and Caroline Peterson ’22 GS. Providence returned home Friday, Jan. 20 for a matchup with The University of Connecticut, tying the Huskies 2–2. Reichen Kirchmair ’26 and Sara Hjalmarsson ’22 GS each netted goals for the Friars. The Friars return to action Friday, Jan. 27 with a visit to the University of New Hampshire.
Men’s Basketball:
The Friars had a pair of Big East games this week, matching up with Marquette University on the road and DePaul University at home on Jan. 18 and Jan. 21, respectively. The Friars dropped their bout with Marquette 83–75, as they couldn’t quite keep pace with the high-powered offense of the Golden Eagles. The Friars were led by Ed Croswell ’22 RS, who scored an efficient 20 points shooting 75 percent from the field. The Friars were able to bounce back against DePaul, cruising to a 75–64 victory. Noah Locke ’22 GS exploded for 29 points in the game, on seven for 12 shooting from beyond the arc.
