Men’s soccer
The Providence College Men’s soccer team comes out being ranked number sixteen for the season. Their season opener was against Colgate University where they fell short 3-2. Nick Benjamin ’23 scored his first goal for the Friars in the first twenty minutes of the game, giving them great momentum. The second goal was scored by Thomas Tulgar ’25. Colgate tied it up and then scored their third goal in the 79th minute. The Friars face Fordham next where the game ends in a 0-0 tie. Next, they are set to play Siena College at home on Sept. 2.
Women’s soccer
The Providence College women’s soccer team won their season opener against Colgate University where they won 1-0. Ava Brandt ’23 scored the team’s goal for this game. Their second game was against Boston University, where they lost 2-1. The Friars goal was scored by Meg Hughes ’24. Their next game was against Rutgers University where they lost 3-0. The Friars then traveled to Nashville, Tennessee where they lost 5-0. Their next two games are against Stony Brook and Boston College where the Friars are hopeful about winning these games.
Volleyball
The Providence College Volleyball team won their home opener against Central Connecticut State University 3-1. Jennifer Leitman ’23 had twelve kills, three blocks, and two aces for the game. Shaliyah Rhoden ’25 had eleven kills for the game. The Friars fell short in their next game against Iona University 3-1 in four sets. They then beat the College of the Holy Cross in straight sets winning this game 3-0. An important announcement for the team and program is that Kayla Grant ’25 was named to the Big East honor roll. Grant had 28 kills and eleven total blocks as Providence went 2-1 in the Iona tournament. This is exciting and promising for the season ahead.
Field hockey
The field hockey team had their season openers at Boston College with one game against Boston University on Aug. 26 and another game on Aug. 27 against Boston College. The Friars fell to their home opener against Boston University 2-1. Cami Crook ’25 scored the first and only Friars goal. In the third quarter Boston University had their lead up to 2-1. The game was interrupted due to rain delays during the third quarter for a total of three hours, so momentum was lost from both teams. The next day the Friars fell to Boston College 5-0, thus making them 0-2 for the season so far.
