Men’s Ice Hockey

On Oct. 31, the men’s ice hockey team had their home Big East opener against UMass Lowell. Five different Friars scored on their way to a 5–2 victory to begin their Hockey East campaign. Phillip Svedeback ’26 netted 25 saves in the win. John Mustard ’28 had four shots on net and scored his fifth goal of the season. Roger McQueen ’29 recorded one assist. On Saturday, Nov. 1, the team traveled to Lowell for a rematch and suffered a 5–1 loss. Jonathan Fauchon ’29 scored the only goal for the Friars in the second period. Next weekend, the team will have another home-and-home series against the University of Connecticut. The team will travel to Storrs on Friday, Nov. 7, then return for a home game at Schneider Arena Saturday, Nov. 8. 

Women’s Cross Country

On Oct. 31, the women’s cross country team travelled to Nebraska for the Big East Championship 6k. The team racked up a total of 61 points, earning them the No. 3 slot out of eleven teams in the Big East. This is the sixth straight year the women’s team has placed in the top three in the Big East Championship and the 14th time in the last fifteen years, demonstrating impressive levels of consistent winning. Anna Gardiner ’28, an international student from Ireland, led the team by finishing No. 6 out of 96 total runners with a time of 20 minutes and about three seconds. In two weeks, the team will travel to New Hampshire for the Northeast Regional Competition. 

Men’s Soccer 

On Saturday, Nov. 1  the men’s soccer team traveled to Chicago for a road bout against DePaul University. The Friars found themselves a goal down to begin the game, but a goal by Angelo Ventrella ’29 tied it up. Later, the Friars found themselves down again 2–1, until Sam Montalto ’26 equalized the game late in the second half. A few minutes later, the Friars were rewarded with a penalty kick, and Bruno Rosa ’26 knocked it in to secure their impressive 3–2 victory. The Friars move to 4–2–1 in Big East play and will return home for their senior night next weekend on Nov. 7 against No. 16 Georgetown University. 

Field Hockey

On Oct. 31, the field hockey team played their last game of the season, hosting Temple University. They took a tough 3–2 overtime loss, finishing their season at 8–9. Lily Procaccianti ’27 and Bo Martina ’27 each scored a goal for the Friars. Martina finished the season with a team best of 22 points, nine goals, and four assists. Procaccianti led the team in goals scored throughout the season, tallying 10 total personal goals. The Friars will look to improve in the offseason and come back stronger next fall.
