Congress Updates

by Margaret Mahoney ’21

The 69th Student Congress held our weekly meeting on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

The guest speaker was Joe Carr, associate vice president of marketing and communications for Providence College, who gave an interesting presentation on the marketing and communications department.

In this presentation, Mr. Carr described the responsibilities of the department, such as managing the College’s social media accounts, creating emails for alumni, creating website content, and producing the alumni magazine.

Mr. Carr also highlighted the different aspects of the alumni magazine, specifically the student-oriented content such as student trips and service projects.

According to Mr. Carr, the marketing and communications department produces about 300 print pieces each year. Mr. Carr also mentioned the College’s outreach to students who are interested in participating in photoshoots for promotional materials.

One piece of legislation was presented by the chair of clubs and organizations. This legislation would implement deadlines for students to formally establish clubs each semester. The presenter of this legislation stated that if passed, the legislation would improve the progress of club approval for students as well as the Office of Student Activities. Congress will vote on this legislation next week.
