Men’s Soccer:
The Providence College Men’s soccer team recently went into Big East play with a record of 2–2–2. Their first Big East game was away against Villanova University, and ended in a 1–1 tie. Brian Lopez ’26 had the sole goal for the Friars, which also marked his first collegiate goal. This goal was assisted by Thomas Tulgar ’25. The Friars tied 2–2 again when they hosted Seton Hall this past Saturday. The Friars have a promising season and will be playing away at Depaul University on Oct. 1 next.
Women’s Soccer:
The Providence College women’s soccer team is currently 3–5–1. They recently played cross-city rival Brown University, where the Friars fell 3–0. Hannah Pinkus ’23 had the Friars’ lone shot on goal, which went wide of the net. Goalkeeper Emma Bodmer ’24 recorded three saves in this game. The Friars began Big East play on Thursday at Seton Hall, where they opened conference play with an exciting 1–0 victory. The Friars will then have their Big East home opener against Butler University on Sept. 29.
Volleyball:
The Providence College women’s volleyball team is off to a great start this season. The Friars recently traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the Sheridan University City Classic, where they faced Temple University, George Washington University, and the University of Pennsylvania. The Friars’ first game was a 3–2 loss against Temple. During this game, Kayla Grant ’25 had a match-high seven blocks. Against George Washington, the Friars unfortunately fell short again in a close match losing 3–2. And finally, the Friars beat UPenn in straight sets to finish the invitational. Following these matches, the Friars also dropped their first two away Big East matchups with a 3–0 loss to St. John’s University and a 3–2 loss to Seton Hall University. Their next match will be at Depaul University this Friday, Sept. 30.
Field hockey:
The Providence College field hockey team is off to a very exciting start in Big East play. In their Big East home opener against Villanova, they beat the Wildcats 5–2. Ally DeCoste ’24, Niamh Gowing ’23, Sophia Pompeo ’23, and Bella Carrozza ’24 all scored for the Friars. The Friars then played an out of conference game and faced Bucknell University, where they won 2–1. Some other important team highlights include Niamh Gowing being named Big East player of the week, and teammate and goalkeeper Asia Porter ’24 making the Big East Weekly Honor Roll. On Friday, the Friars traveled to Washington D.C., and defeated Big East rival Georgetown University 4–0. The Friars have No. 11 ranked University of Connecticut next on Sept. 30 at home.
